INTRODUCTION

A WARM WELCOME . . . .

A warm welcome to this website, which contains a selection of commemorative and historical medals, as well as related objects, coins and books. All items are for sale, except those listed on the Archive page. To see a full description of what is available and the price, simply click on Medals & Medallic Art, Coins or Books in the menu on the left-hand side, and once there click on its title or yellow link. The Archive section contains items that have been sold and are no longer available.

BACKGROUND

I have been dealing in commemorative and historical medals and related works of art since 1970 and have written widely on the subject. The first book, a catalogue of British medals and their values, was published in 1987 and received the Mishler Prize from the Token and Medal Society of America. Subsequent books include a catalogue of the medallic portraits of the Duke of Wellington and a monograph on the Pingos, a family of eighteenth-century engravers and medal makers. This work was recognized with the presentation of the 2002 Carl W.A. Carlson Award by Medal Collectors of America.

I am a member of the British Art Medal Society, the British Numismatic Society and the Royal Numismatic Society, and have served on each as a member of Council. I am an elected Fellow of both the Society of Antiquaries and the Royal Society of Arts. The professional trade organizations to which I belong are the British Numismatic Trade Association and the International Association of Professional Numismatists.

PAYMENT

Prices on this website are in Sterling, but payment may be made by personal cheque in the currency of your choice. Payment may also be made by Credit Card through PayPal. Simply send an e-mail expressing your wish to pay by this method, listing the item(s) required, and an e-mail will be sent by return, implementing a credit card payment through the PayPal system. There are no additional charges for payment made by this method and it is safe and secure.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

All prices are net. There are no hidden costs or additions, except in the despatch of large or heavy medals and books, to which postage will be added. Orders are usually despatched within two days of receipt of payment.

Each piece has been carefully selected as a pleasing example of its kind and is sold with an invoice carrying its full description and a guarantee of authenticity. There is a ten-day return privilege on each item, which may be exchanged for another or returned for a full refund.

Established clients may pay for items up to 30 days after receipt. Clients who would prefer to pay over a period of time - usually between one month and three months - may do so for orders amounting to more than £250.

The images on the web-site are not to scale or in proportion with one another, but each description includes the full diameter or size.

This is an independently operated website without links to any other parties. A policy of privacy is strictly adhered to, and client information and mailing lists are not divulged, distributed or traded in any manner. The site is regularly updated with new acquisitions, and items are removed once an order has been received.

All the images on this website are the copyright of Christopher Eimer. Use of them for non-commercial purposes such as publication in articles and books will be granted, but it is always nice to be asked beforehand.

Active clients include museums and other public institutions, as well as private collectors and fellow dealers. I frequently attend auctions and will, if required, view lots for clients and bid on their behalf.

Medals have shown a steady and consistent increase in price over the last fifty or more years, but they are not being sold as an investment product, nor should they be bought as such. As a general rule, the advice is very easy: buy what you like and what pleases you, and buy the best that you can afford; rather ten good medals, than a hundred indifferent.

If you do not see what you want, I will be pleased to receive an e-mail of your interests. Should you prefer, you can always reach me on the telephone in London, between the hours of 0900 and 1800 (GMT), Monday to Friday.

Would you please note that if you have come across this website for the first time and simply require general information about the history or the value of an item in your possession, this is not a publicly-funded information service and you would be best advised to contact a museum or an auction house.

Needless to say, we are always actively seeking to buy single pieces or collections and welcome enquiries about items or collections which are for sale.

We look forward to hearing from you.

Christopher Eimer
