Reference:4008 Giovanni Battista Orsini, c. 1475

Head right, in high relief. Unicorn standing left, dipping his horn into a spring, which issues from a rock, on top of which is a tree. Another tree in the centre, on which hangs an armorial shield of the Orsini family. Copper, cast. 40 mm. (1.60 inches) in diameter.

Condition: Very fine, the field between the bust and the legend lightly tooled.

Notes: Giovanni Battista Orsini was made canon of the Lateran Church while still a boy and cardinal deacon in 1483. Orsini was murdered by Pope Alexander VI in a purge of various families, of which the Orsini was famously one, in 1503.
