114. Leopold I of the Holy Roman Empire and the Turkish Wars, 1661

A lion, passant, holding a sword and a sceptre.

Silver, cast, 37 mm. (1.45 inches).
Very fine.

Notes: Leopold I (1640-1705) was the second son of Ferdinand III, and was Holy Roman emperor 1658-1705.
The particular episode of war between the H.R.E. and Turkey, which this medal commemorates, lasted from 1661 to 1664 and ended with victory for Leopold I at Montecuccolii, St Gothard.
Johann Bucheim (1624-83) worked for various European courts as a medallist, including those at Breslau and Saxony.
