655. King George II Tassie portrait, c.1780
Bust of King George II, his face with thin smiling lips, left; he is wearing a long full-bottomed wig, tied behind, a breastplate, together with a ribbon over his left shoulder, and the Star of the Garter on a fur-lined cloak.
By William Tassie (unsigned).
White glass, vitreous paste. 85 x 65 mm. (3.4 x 2.6 inches).
Contained within its original oval and glazed pearwood frame, 175 x 145 mm. (7 x 5.9 inches).
Extremely fine and most attractive.

Notes: William Tassie developed a white, vitreous glass paste, with which he produced a portrait gallery of profiles of contemporary and other figures in the latter part of the eighteenth century.
