If you have a medal or a collection of medals that you do wish to sell, then your call or e-mail is welcomed, but please note that an offer cannot be made without seeing and examining the item(s). Thank you.

Adam and Eve / The Crucifixion of Christ

885. Adam and Eve / The Crucifixion of Christ, c.1535
The naked figures of Adam and Eve standing either side of a bountiful apple tree, in which sits a monkey; Adam holds an apple, while Eve, a fig leaf from the tree preserving her modesty, plucks one from the tree. A two-line inscription running across the field. Various scenes and figures around the lower register of the medal.
The scene at Calvary, with Christ on the cross. A one-line inscription running across the field. Various scenes and figures around the lower register of the medal.
By Hans Reinhart.
Silver, cast. 56 mm. (2.25 inches) in diameter.
Nearly extremely fine and an attractive cast.
Sorry this item is sold.
References: cf. Goppel 64 (but without the additional border); cf. Habich II, 1, 1969.
Notes: There are a number of variants of this medal. The examples cited in Goppel and in Habich are those more usually found, showing Eve without a fig leaf.
