Queen Elizabeth I Naval Reward: Defeat of the Spanish Armada - Dangers Averted, 1589 Bust of Queen Elizabeth I, to left, her hair compact, and adorned with pearls; she wears a very large ruff, and a gown with a profusion of jewellery. A bay tree uninjured by lightning and winds, flourishing upon an island, inscribed: NON IPSA PERICVLA TANGVNT (Not even dangers affect it). Two ships in the distance. E R on either side of the bay tree. Decorative loop for suspension at top. Silver, cast. 45 x 62 mm. (1.75 x 2.45 inches) oval. Nearly extremely fine, and beautifully chased. Sorry this item is sold. Notes: A rare medal of a type made only in the eighteenth century, and a particularly attractive example. From an old, pre-war collection.
