1398. Ciro Ferri, 1680 Draped bust of Ciro Ferri, to right. An allegory of Painting and Architecture. By Massimiliano Soldani-Benzi. Signed on the reverse, in the exergue: M. SOLDANUS. F. Bronze, cast. 65 mm. (2.6 inches) in diameter. Very fine with some edge bumps; an attractive, medium-brown patina. Sorry this item is sold. References: Vannel-Toderi 15; Johnson 140, fig. 117; Lankheit 117; Clifford 295, bronze gilt £800. Notes: Ciro Ferri (1634-89), painter and architect, who in 1673 prepared the design for the recently-founded Florentine Academy in Rome. Soldani-Benzi was a pupil of Ferri, and produced this medal in honour of his master, who, in 1680, as indicated on the medal, was 46 years old.
