If you have a medal or a collection of medals that you do wish to sell, then your call or e-mail is welcomed, but please note that an offer cannot be made without seeing and examining the item(s). Henri de Maleyssic

2098. Henri de Maleyssic, 1635
Large bust of Meleyssic, armoured and draped, to right.
The columned gates and façade of the Pignerol; a view of the fortress in the exergue.
By Abraham Dupre (A. DUPRE F 1635, below the bust).
Bronze, cast. 105 mm. in diameter. Suspension loop.
A very fine early cast, with an even and attractive medium-brown patina.
Sorry this item is sold.
References: cf. Jones 73 (French Medals in the British Museum, volume 2), but a uniface cast of the obverse.
Notes: The British Museum catalogue lists two examples of this medal: a version by Abraham's father, Guillaume Dupre (Jones 69 [= 108 mm.]), with which the medal being offered is comparable; and a uniface of the obverse by Abraham (cf. Jones 73 [=102 mm.]), which is a rough uniface cast, and described as such.
Henri de Maleyssic took part in the siege of Pignerol and the conquest of Savoy in 1630. He was appointed Governor of Pignerol in 1633 and raised a regiment to guard the fortress in 1640, remaining there as Lieutenant until his retirement in 1651.
