Reference:5338 Admiral Tirpitz: 'Gott Strafe England' , 1915

Uniformed bust of Admiral Tirpitz, three-quarters left. /

The half-length figure of Neptune blowing a large shell and emerging from the ocean, in which can be seen shipping; behind is the date 18 FEBRUARY 1915.

By Artur Lowental.

Silver. 35 mm.

Condition: Nearly extremely fine

Notes:

18 February 1915 was the date of which neutral shipping was warned to stay away from the waters surrounding Great Britain and Ireland, the entire area having now been declared a war-zone by Germany and the Axis powers. Less than three months later, and in one of the most infamous naval actions of the Great War, the passenger-carrying Lusitania was sunk by Germany off the coast of Ireland with huge loss of life.
