Reference:6471 Alexander I of Russia, original case for the 1804 Rouble, 1804

Matthew Boulton's original metal tin shells to house the  rouble of Alexander I, engraved by Conrad Heinrich Kuchler in 1804.

Lightly inked on the outside of the case is a reference to Russia, which together with the diameter of the two perfectly fitting shells have helped indetify the coin that it housed.

Condition: Extremely fine.
