Notes:

The medal was issued by the British Art Medal Society and produced in an edition limited to 56 medals, all of which were given a naturalistic green patina. The artist describes Maya in India as being interpreted as illusion, dream or mirage, apart from its use as a female name. The Dark One explores some of the qualities of this nature enhancing visual perception.

Dhruva Mistry (b. 1957) studied at the Royal College of Art and has been sculptor in residence at Kettle's Yard, Cambridge, and at the Victoria and Albert Museum.
