Sir Alfred Frederick Bird, 1st Baronet (1849-1922) was a British chemist, food manufacturer and Conservative Party politician, best remembered as the proprietor of Alfred Bird & Sons, a company founded by his father Alfred Bird, and the inventor of baking powder and the powdered custard that bears his name. At the January 1910 general election he was elected as the Member of Parliament for Wolverhampton West, a seat which he held until his death. He received his baronetcy for patronage of art and for donating paintings to the Houses of Parliament. This item represents the ultimate in cycling prize medals.
