Two hinged panels, their outer covers with reliefs representing the wallpaper and textile designs of William Morris. The two panels open to reveal the figure of William Morris, seen from behind, seated busily working at a loom. A skein of fabric falls from beneath the loom onto the lower panel, in which can be seen a half-length profile of Morris.

Bronze, cast, 200 x 62 mm. (8 x 2.5 inches, when fully extended.

Condition: Extremely fine.

Notes:

Cecilia Yau (b.1964) is a sculptor and jewellery designer. Her ingeniously designed medal of William Morris was produced on the 100th anniversary of his death in 1995, and it was awarded a prize in the Royal Mint's student competition in the same year. It was offered as an issue by the British Art Medal Society in 1996.
